TRANSPORTATION
"Port Moody is the worst part of my commute!" I've heard that statement from hundreds of residents.
We need action on transit and traffic in Port Moody. Here are a few priorities.
Lastly, we shouldn't delude ourselves about the benefits of the Evergreen Line. Typically, rapid transit reduces traffic by 10% to 15%. After a few years, we will be back to the same congestion on our roads. To increase our population by 15,000 people just doesn't make sense.
Voters have a clear choice if they wish to avoid the condo towers and traffic congestion prescribed by the outgoing mayor.
We need action on transit and traffic in Port Moody. Here are a few priorities.
- We need a Mayor who takes action to ensure buses connect with the Evergreen Line. We need to lobby hard for TransLink to PLAN TODAY so that new shuttle buses are ready to roll the first day the Evergreen Line opens.
- We often wait too long for buses to come, and we turn to cars for solutions. More frequent buses will reduce overall traffic.
- The four-lane Murray Clarke Connector was designed to improve traffic flow for Port Moody residents. The project had been climbing up the list of regional priorities but now it has disappeared because the Council elected in 2011 cancelled the project.
- We need to carve ourselves a bigger place at the regional table and draw more attention to our transportation issues.
- Gridlock is increasing and it is time for action and leadership to unblock our streets.
