In 1995, Gaetan was awarded the 
Meritorious Service Medal by
Governor General Romeo Leblanc, in recognition for his humanitarian service in Bosnia and Sarajevo during the war.
As the senior military officer in this team, Gaetan oversaw the Ambassador’s security and the restoration of bridges, water treatment, schools, hospitals, generators, roads, etc. He supported UN efforts to gather war crime evidence.

Gaetan oversaw the amalgamation of the former Gibsons, Sechelt and Pender Harbour Chambers to form a new Sunshine Coast Chamber of Commerce. The new Chamber nearly doubled its membership compared to the 3 former entities. The amalgamation was celebrated as a unifying force for businesses on the Sunshine Coast.

​Gaetan created CityState Consulting, a successful boutique Urban Planning and Design firm serving clients in Metro Vancouver, BC and Alberta.
Gaetan also worked with international clients including Ernst & Young and the City of Moscow.
CityState achieves 30 to 40 real estate development project approvals per year.

Gaetan was recruited to oversee the implementation of the Metro Vancouver Regional Growth Strategy and work with leaders of 21 cities within the regional government.

Initially joining Port Moody as Director of Community Services, Gaetan was soon appointed City Manager. A champion for front line public workers, he always assigned a high priority to employees' operational needs. Gaetan is proud of his role in "contracting in" the City’s waste and recycling collection. Working closely with CUPE, the City approved the purchase of new trucks. City staff replaced sub-standard contract work and eliminated the City's biggest source of complaints at the time. Proud city workers provided far better service, at a lower cost.
Under his leadership, the City also won the UN Livable Communities Award for its "Planning for the Future."

Gaetan looked after a variety of public services including Transit, Public Works, Bylaws, Economic Development. Gaetan was appointed Co-Chair of the Whitehorse International Airport Redevelopment Plan. He also oversaw facilities planning for the 2000 Arctic Winter Games.

As Manager of Planning for the fastest growing City in Canada at the time, Gaetan played a key role in expanding the number recreation facilities in the City. He chaired the Parks Dedication Referendum Task Force and the City Centre Redevelopment Task Force. The City received a BC Parks & Recreation Association Award for an innovative Youth Park he and his team designed.

Gaetan initially provided military engineering support to United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) troops in war-torn Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia.
He was soon appointed as Military Attaché to Ambassador Eagleton, Special Coordinator for the Restoration of Essential Services in Sarajevo.
As the senior military officer, Gaetan oversaw the Ambassador’s security, the restoration of bridges, water treatment, schools, hospitals, generators, roads.
He supported UN efforts to gather war crime evidence.
Gaetan was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal by Governor General Romeo Leblanc for his humanitarian achievements during the war.

In the aftermath of a 1992 hurricane, he led a relief operation in Dade County, Florida.
​He served as Chair of the School Board for three schools and negotiated their transfer to the civilian school Board and the Commission Scolaire Francophone de l’ Alberta.
